A Chartered Architectural Technologist with over 35 years of experience working across southern Scotland, Cumbria and the wider UK. Based in Eastriggs, Dumfries & Galloway, I work with private homeowners, landowners, developers and commercial clients on projects of all sizes from house extensions to residential developments and community buildings.

I set up my own practice on a full-time basis in 2018, though I had been working independently alongside other roles for many years before that. Running my own practice means clients deal directly with me throughout  from the first conversation to the final approval.

Qualifications & Professional Membership

I qualified as a Chartered Architectural Technologist in 1989 and am a member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT).

My practice is registered as a CIAT Chartered Practice.

Experience

My career has taken in a wide range of sectors and project types. Before setting up on my own, I worked with Wigtown District Council on housing renovation and new builds, with Dumfries and Galloway Council on educational projects, and with Cumbria County Council and Capita Symonds on a programme of school and community buildings across Cumbria including Sure Start centres, school extensions and new community facilities.

I then spent a period with a private practice in Carlisle before going full-time with my own practice in 2018.

Since then, I have worked on a broad range of projects including:

  • House extensions and remodelling for private homeowners
  • New build houses and bespoke individual homes
  • Residential housing developments
  • Listed building and heritage projects
  • Renovation and conversion of rural buildings
  • Agricultural buildings
  • Commercial and community projects

I have worked on projects across southern Scotland, Cumbria, and further afield across the UK, from Perthshire to London.

How I Work

Every project is different, and I take time at the outset to properly understand what each client is hoping to achieve. I offer straightforward, practical advice.

I use 2D CAD and 3D design software to develop proposals, which allows clients to clearly visualise designs before any application is submitted. I handle the full process, from initial sketch proposals through to Planning applications, Building Warrant or Building Regulations submissions, and coordination with structural engineers and other consultants where needed.
